Pants To Poverty from Rollo Jackson on Vimeo.
The issue: 2 years after the G8 made their small promises in response to the Make Poverty History coalition, they still hadn’t done anything.
The Actions: On Saturday 2nd June 2007, as G8 leaders gathered in Germany for another G8 Summit, thousands of people descended on central London for The World Can’t Wait rally by Westminster and the River Thames. There was a great carnival atmosphere and the sun was shining as we prepared for another pants flash. We met for a quick costume change in a pub around the corner from Parliament square, and, at the appropriate time, stormed into parliament square. Hundreds of cameras, flashed, live coverage on several TV channels and then, within minutes it was all over.
The result: The message we sent to G8 leaders was that they must take decisive action on poverty and climate change. Did they do anything? Easy answer – no.
