The issue: Despite progress on cancelling some of the crippling debts imposed on poor countries, many countries’ debts were still being enforced unjustly. 10 years on from the launch of the campaign, this was a call to action for promises to be delivered on and the debts to be dropped.
The actions: 10 years on from the sensational human chain that wrapped around Birmingham in 1998 to call on rich countries to drop the debts they impose on poor countries (many of which were once their colonies) we supported the thousands of campaigners in Birmingham by staging another pants flash… this time in the very same building where the G8 met ten years previously.
The result: By September 2008, nearly 90% of the poorest countries’ debts were cancelled but a great deal remains to be done.
